Electronic Health Records Specialist

Learn more about our Electronic Health Records Program

As an Electronic Health Records Specialist (EHRS) students will greatly enhance their knowledge in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology. This program is ideal for students who want to improve their knowledge of anatomy & physiology and introduces the student to medical terminology used in the medical coding and reimbursement profession. Medical terminology from a coder’s perspective is also covered. The student will also have a thorough understanding of how the human body operates and how anatomy applies to the medical record. This course would be valuable for anyone preparing for a career in any non-clinical medical profession, and we strongly suggest this course for anyone who is preparing to take our Certified Professional Coder program or for one who is also preparing to take the AAPC’s CPC certification examination. The student will also become very familiar with their role as an Electronic Health Records Specialist. This course will cover the basics of electronic health records, including implementation in the physician’s office, troubleshooting, HIPAA compliance, and practical application, with real-world approaches from both the administrative and clinical prospective.

The security, completeness and accuracy of patient data is critical in both the healthcare and insurance industries. In the healthcare industry, Electronic Health Records Specialists serve an important role, which is why most employers now require a certification. The CEHRS is a nationally-recognized credential that can set you apart from others in the health record industry. Objectives include, but are not limited to: the proper auditing of patient records for compliance; accurately constructing clinical information for reports; processing Release of Information (ROI) and requests for medical records; successfully reviewing patient records to ensure completion and accuracy; collecting patient demographic and insurance information; and learning how to discuss patient information with physicians and insurance professionals.
